As Maggie climbed into her chair (right next to mine) to eat breakfast this morning --

Me:  You look very pretty this morning

Maggie: Uhhh...you don't.

At least I'm confident enough that I can laugh. As soon as I laughed I found myself thinking my own mother, so young when she had me, would probably have been really hurt by such a comment.

My husband was less amused than I, he scowled a bit.

Well, you know she's probably just asserting her independence and being contrary. Kids always think their mothers are the prettiest. :-)

It certainly surprised me, as I am used to hearing from her how pretty I am. :) She's got a cold and isn't feeling well today, she was definitely in a contrary mood -- even yelling at her favorite tv show not to do the things they were doing.
