Why are there police driving through my neighborhood with their lights on?

Why have sirens been going for the past 15 minutes somewhere (but where?) nearby?

The Intarweb delivers again! Too bad I didn't get the message til 9:50pm, but I'll bookmark that for another time.

My Dad had a police scanner when I was a kid, it was ridiculously fun to listen to that thing sometimes.
